The Funeral Procession

Saturday July 14, 2001, The funeral procession left Groff Funeral Home at 11am. Fire departments participating in the procession were; Southern Manheim Township Fire Company, Engine 2-11-3 and Command 2-11, Lancaster County Haz Mat 2, Haz Mat 2-9-1, Willow Street Fire Company, Engine 5-12-1, Lafayette Fire Company, Truck 6-3 and Squad 6-3, Lancaster City Bureau of Fire, Engine 1 and Engine 4, West Lancaster Fire Company, Rescue 6-8 and all apparatus from both stations of the Lancaster Township Fire Department. The funeral procession proceeded from Groff's Funeral Home to the Lancaster Township Fire Department North Station, 1250 Maple Ave. A Lancaster City Police Department motorcycle led the procession blocking intersections for the motorcade.

At the North Station Trucks 5-12 from the Willow Street Fire Company and Truck 6-7 from the Roherstown Fire Company were awaiting the funeral procession with their ladders crossed with black bunting draped between the buckets. Truck 7-4 from Elizabethtown Fire Company of which Pookie was the care taker when it was Truck 6-6 before it sold to Elizabethtown Fire Company had it bucket in the air paying tribute to Pookie as he passed by.

The
funeral procession came to a stop as the hearse was under the crossed ladder trucks and a bagpipe played Amazing Grace. All motors were turned off and a moment of silence was observed. After the moment of silence Lancaster County Wide Communications hit the dispatch tone for Lancaster Township Fire Department, the station siren blew signaling the LAST ALARM for Pookie.
