Crash Closes Millersville Pike For More Than 7 Hours

Lancaster Township Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at 1508 Millersville Pike at 3:08 pm on a cold, wintery friday January 21st, 2000 to find a car driven by Judith Ann Miller of Lancaster, lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole.

The Lancaster Township Fire Police detoured traffic around the Manor Shopping Center throughout the evening. The center was without power for much of the evening. A portion of the road bordering the retail center was closed for more than 7 hours. With the temperature at 13 degrees and a 10mph wind blowing from the west northwest, made it feel like it was -5 degrees below zero.

Because workers had to replace the pole, power was cut off to the center. That meant a loss of revenue for places like Manor Cinemas movie theater, Burger King, and McDonalds. Also effected by the power outage were Weis Markets and the State Liquor Store.
