
The Lancaster Township Fire Department was dispatched for a
search detail Wednesday October 20th at 7:30 pm at the Hershey
Heritage Apartments. The first responding chief was alert from
Lancaster County Radio that a resident of the apartment complex
had taken an overdose of
depressants and had fled into a near by field. EMS personnel from
the Lancaster Emergency Medical Services L.E.M.S.A. stated to
fire personnel that they only had an hour to find the individual.
Rescue units from West Lancaster Fire department, Millersville
Fire department, New Danville Fire department, Willow Street Fire
Department were set up for lighting. The W.E.S.T
(Widerness Emergency Strike Team)search team The Lancaster Redrose
K9 Search Team as well as a Pennsylvania State Police Helicopter
was brought in with a Thermal Imaging camera to find the individual.
A resident startled by the chopper fled to his front lawn to find the missing person at the edge of his property. Fire Policeman Clyde Thomas of the New danville Fire Department who was in the area directed the medic unit to where the victim was laying. After a two hour search on a cold October night, a happy ending.
