THE PASSING OF A BROTHER
Nov. 30th
The Membership of the East Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company regret
to announce the untimely passing of Firefighter/EMT Jim Ott (AKA Pops).
Jim has been an active member and was recently honored in October for 35
years of service at the annual awards banquet. Over the years Jim has
served as a Captain, Trustee, and served on numerous committees. With
Jim’s vast array of experience of rescue work he helped East Petersburg
to be one of the best rescue services in South Central Pennsylvania and
has trained numerous members in ropes, knots and confined space work
throughout the years. Along with the above Jim was a great mentor to the
younger generations at East Petersburg.
On Tuesday evening
while Jim was hunting in Sullivan County he was stricken ill and did not
return from the woods and approximately 20:00 a massive search was
initiated by multiple Sullivan County fire departments. On Wednesday
evening the membership of East Petersburg was notified of the traumatic
event. After hearing of Jim missing an eleven member crew went to assist
in the search with additional crews ready to depart on Thursday evening.
After searching for ten hours the crew from East Petersburg and air
support from Pennsylvania State Police Trooper 3 located and had the
honor of bringing Pops home to his family, friends and brothers and
sisters of the fire service. Jim will be greatly missed by the members
of the East Petersburg Volunteer Fire company and the community which he
resided but will Never Be Forgotten!
