S. West Ave. Apartment Building Fire
October 25th, 2005, 4:26 AM
|
|
A frantic 911 caller from 417
S. West End Ave. brought the LTFD to an apartment building fire at 4:26
A.M. on Tuesday October 25 during the rain and wind of tropical storm
Wilma.
Lancaster EMS ambulance 6-12-3 arrived first on the scene and
encountered heavy black smoke from the chimney of a three story brick
apartment building.
Engine 6-6-2 arrived next and
found smoke coming from the basement and used forcible
entry to gain access to the basement area.
Once in the basement, the firefighters determined the furnace oil
burner was malfunctioning which was the source of the smoke and shut
down the unit.
The truck crew used a PPV fan to evacuate the smoke from the basement and the apartment building hallways.
Units were in service for 90 minutes.
