TUESDAY MAY 1, 2007 - LTFD was dispatched to a one vehicle accident in the 1400 block of New Danville Pike, south of Hoover Road.
The 911 caller who happened upon the accident told dispatchers one person was still in the vehicle possibly trapped in the passenger side.
Deputy Chief Glenn Usdin arrived and began to gather information. Usdin met the 911 caller who said there was one person in the vehicle and they were not moving and were afraid to check the occupant for signs of life.
Usdin assisted by Lancaster City Police, Lancaster EMS 612-5 and Medic 100 converged on the vehicle to assess the patient and found the trapped occupant was actually a talking halloween mannequin seat belted into the passenger seat.
The driver of the green Chevy Astro Van fled the scene and returned a short time later.
Lancaster City Police administered a field sobriety test to the driver which she failed.
The van was heading south on New Danville Pike. The van left the roadway striking a 100+ year old farm retaining wall and came to rest blocking both lanes of New Danville Pike. The passenger side of the vehicle sustained heavy damage
Engine 66-3 provided fluid control around the vehicle. Rescue 6-6 provided stabilization and lighting for the scene.
Units returned to service at 3 a.m.
