Neffsville Post Office Fire
May 13th, 2007, 1:40 AM

SUNDAY MAY 13, 2007 - LTFD Rescue 6-6 assisted Neffsville Fire Company at a two alarm building fire.

The two-alarm fire seriously damaged the Neffsville post office and two neighboring businesses.

Village Boutique Jewelry and Hess Home Builders also were damaged by the fire, which was reported by two passers-by about 1:40 a.m as a trash fire.

The fire originated outside the post office, in a pole that supported an overhang. Wiring for lights in the parking lot ignited the fire.

When firefighters arrived, the buildings were burning, with the bulk of the flames in the roof void spaces.

Neffsville Fire Chief Mike Elliott estimated total damages to be $275,000.

It was the first significant fire at a Lancaster County post office in more than 20 years.

The fire was ruled accidental and electrical in nature.
