Millersville 2 Alarm House Fire
May 18th, 2007, 4:49 AM

FRIDAY MAY 18, 2007 - Truck 6-6 Assisted Millersville Fire Company on a 2 alarm house fire at 123 Spring Meadow Lane in Manor Township.

A 12-year-old girl may have saved the lives of her parents when she awoke to the sound of a crackling fire.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Morgan Chenault heard the crackling sound and woke up her parents, Roger and Ellen, alerting them to fire in their garage.

The three escaped safely, according to state police fire marshal Trooper James Dewalt, as the fire spread up the side of the garage and across the roof of the two-story home.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, Dewalt said, but he estimated the damage at $140,000.

With more than half of the roof destroyed by the fire, Dewalt said, and most of the damage occurring over the second-floor bedroom area, it was unlikely the Chenaults will be able to return home anytime soon.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross is providing the family with vouchers for temporary lodging, food and clothing.
