LCFA Convention Parade 2007
June 3rd, 2007, 12:26 AM

Parade Slide Show

SATURDAY JUNE 2, 2007 - The 87th annual Lancaster County Firemen's Association parade was held in Manheim Township on Route 501 starting in Neffsville.

Manheim Township Fire Department -- consisting of Eden, Southern Manheim Township and Neffsville fire companies --  jointly hosted the parade, which  started at 2 p.m.

Fire companies from across Lancaster County and outside the county  participated, said Beth Templeton, assistant secretary of Neffsville Fire Company and head of the parade committee .

The number of participants has increased daily, John Leas, Manheim Township's emergency fire coordinator. More than 100 companies  registered to participate, and there will be 120 pieces of fire equipment on display, he said.

Templeton said about 10 bands  marched in the parade.

Don Mellott, president of Neffsville Fire Company and a parade committee member, said three floats accompanied the procession.

The judging stand was in front of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church at Lititz Pike and Delp Road. Judges were scattered throughout the parade, examining equipment before the procession begins and throughout the length of the parade.

This year will be the second time Manheim Township has hosted the Lancaster event, the first being in 2004.

"We had somewhat of a monsoon last time," Mellott said.

Templeton said she hopes for a bigger crowd this year -- and less rain.
