FRIDAY MARCH 12, 2010 - Story By LT. John Logan

At 2:32 p m., Station 66 was dispatched for a Public Service-Stuck Elevator, at 1360 Columbia Avenue, Giant Grocery Store.

LCWC advised Rescue 66 that the power to the store was out and an employee was in the elevator unable to get out.

Units arrived on scene to find the power out, and made contact with the employee in the elevator.  Crews determined the employee was stuck between the first and second floor.

Crews used the elevator keys from Rescue 66 to open the second floor door, also crews shut down the power to the elevator.  Crews then opened up the roof hatch and removed the ceiling tile from the elevator.

A 10 ft attic ladder was lowered into the elevator car.  FF Tom Royer made entry to the elevator car with a flash light.  Lt. Logan was positioned on the top of the elevator car to help the employee out, while FF Royer assisted him in climbing the ladder. The employee was then helped out of the elevator shaft onto the second floor.

Crews secured the elevator and turned it over to the store manager Tony Bennett.  The incident was placed under control at 2:57 p.m.  Crews picked up equipment and went available.
