TUESDAY MAY 9, 2006 — LTFD responded to
a reported apartment building fire at 1615 Judie Lane in the Village Of
Lancaster Green Apartments at 7:10 p.m.
Chief Glenn Usdin arrived with nothing evident from the exterior but could hear an audible alarm sounding.
The resident was heating oil in a pan that overheated and caught fire
on the stove. The resident attempted to carry the burning pan to the
outside. The family dog, a small white Bishon, was at the residents
feet while enroute to the door. Due to the pan being to hot, the
burning pan was dropped near the doorway.
The burning material burned the carpet and splashed onto the dog, burning the dog's hind quarters.
The fire was extinguished by the resident before the arrival of the fire department.
Firefighters placed ventilation fans at two of the exits of the
apartment building to evacuate smoke from the apartment and the hallway.
Lancaster EMS treated the resident at the scene for burns on his hand.
The dog was transported to the Lancaster Pet Emergency Center for
treatment.
Units were in service for 1 hour.
