Crews Assist Station 67 on 2 Alarm House Fire
July 27th, 2004, 2:46 PM

Rohrerstown Station (67) and neighboring mutual aid companies battled a 2nd alarm fire in a vacant dwelling on Columbia Avenue in East Hempfield Township. The building had been pre-inspected by the first due company and the arriving IC, Chief Scott Porman, declared the fire attack would be defensive upon his arrival.

The 2 first due engine companies (E 67-1 and 715-1) stretched a 2.5" hoseline and portable Blitzfire ground monitor to the yard of Side A (Alpha) while Eden Station(24) put their 100' tower ladder into operation from an adjoining driveway on side D (Delta).

Fire had heavy possession of all 3 floors and was soon through the roof. Water supply was poor for much of the operation, but with additional supply lines and a short relay, enough pressure was produced for effective streams.

The fire was brought under control in about two hours. 66 operated on the scene for just under 3 hrs. Units on the scene were 67, 68, 66, 23, 715, 24, 311, and 76. EMS units were from 77. Chief 67 (S.Porman) had the command, Capt. 66-2 (Slaymaker) had Operations, and Sta. 76 had the RIT.

The fire is under investigation by the PSP fire marshal.
