Brush Fire Scorches 10 Acres In Bausman
March 12th, 2008, 2:45 AM

LTFD was dispatched at 2:31 for a brush fire to the rear of 316 Rosedale Avenue.
Fire Chief Ron Comfort Jr. arrived and found a cornfield well involved in fire.
The cornfield burning is bordered by the Degel Israel/St. Joseph Catholic Cemeteries, St. Joseph Athletic fields, Rosdale Avenue homes and Village Of Lancaster Green Apartments.
Cheif Comfort requested Brush trucks from West Willow and Conestoga as well as tankers (tenders) from New Danville and Millersville fire companies.
The engines and tankers took a position in the parking lot of the Degel Israel Cemetery off of Rosedale Avenue.
Firefighters stretched hoselines to the edge of the field to protect the houses that border the cornfield.
A stiff wind blew the flames across the field eventually advancing to a large wood pile that ignited.
After the wood pile ignited, Engine 66-3 drove across the field to access the burning pile of wood and brush so the crew could access the fire.
The assisting brush trucks used ground sweeps on the front the engines to extinguish the burning brush and corn stalks.
Damage to the cornfield was estimated at 10 acres burned.
Cause of the fire has not been determined.
Firefighters were in service for 90 minutes.
