TUESDAY MAY 16, 2006 — LTFD assisted Lancaster ORCA (Organization for Responsible Care of Animals), to remove 2 ducklings trapped in a storm drain.

The ducklings were not visible in the storm drains upon the arrival of LTFD at the intersections of Jennings Drive and Michelle Drive.

Firefighters removed the grates of three interconnecting storm drains at the intersection, searching for the ducklings.

Firefighters looked through the connecting pipes with flashlights but there were no ducklings in sight.

To find the ducklings, Engine 6-6-1 flowed 400 gallons of water from it's tank into the first storm drain at the intersection to flush the ducklings through the storm drain piping.

Flushing the storm drain was a success. One duckling was caught by firefighter John Wagner in the first storm drain downstream. The second duckling was caught by firefighter Nick Jabbour in the second storm drain downstream.

The ducklings were handed to the ORCA personnel who placed them into an awaiting cage.

LTFD was in service for 40 minutes.
