Truck And Rescue Assist At Willow Street Duplex Fire

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 19, 2008 -

Just after 10am today, Willow Street Fire Co. was dispatched for a house fire at 2711 Willow Street Pike in West Lampeter Township. Numerous calls poured into the 911 center, all reporting heavy fire and smoke coming from a 2 1/2 story duplex in the village of Willow Street.

The 2nd alarm was transmitted shortly after the initial dispatch adding Truck 6-6 to the assignment. Truck 6-6, staffed with 5, was put to work immediately upon their arrival assisting interior crews with the well-advanced fire already through the roof.

Just after the 2nd alarm was dispatched, County Radio covered units that had failed, which then added Rescue 6-6 on the call. Rescue 6-6, staffed with 6, responded just after dispatch and upon arrival the crew, was instructed to proceed to manpower staging.

Within a matter of minutes, the rescue crew was summoned to the interior to assist with tarps and removal of personal belongings not yet damaged by the fire. Once these tasks were completed, both crews continued with opening up the void spaces to expose pockets of fire which were still through out the structure.

Once the fire was knocked down Truck 6-6 was repositioned to side "charlie/delta" corner and placed into aerial operations. Crews operating in the bucket worked from above the house to extinguish any remaining hot spots, while the remainder of the crew worked on the inside to complete the same task.

After the fire was placed under control, both crews then helped with overhaul of the entire structure, clearing out debris and doing a final check for hot spots.

Both Truck and Rescue 6-6 worked at the scene for close to 4 hours before being released. A great job was done by all companies operating at this stubborn fire.
