Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery Nov. 5, 2017
November 5th, 2017, 2:05 PM

Daylight Savings Time Ends at 2:00 AM, November 5, 2017

As the end of Daylight Savings Time is upon us, the Lancaster Township Fire Department wants to remind you to make another change that could save the lives of you and your family – change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Do you know that an average of three children die in home fires every day? According to the National Fire Protection Association, half of all fatal home fires occur in homes without working smoke detectors. The most common reason the smoke detectors did not work was worn or missing batteries.

Changing smoke detector batteries at least once a year is the simplest, most effective ways to reduce these tragic deaths and injuries. In fact, working smoke detectors cut the risk of dying in a home fire nearly in half!
